Fixtures and Results 1998
This year, to reward the older athletes, all over-50 competitions in the divisional matches were "age-graded". Athletes' performances were expressed as a percentage of a standard for their age in years before being ranked and the points awarded accordingly. So the winner of a race could receive fewer points than an older athlete finishing some way behind.
On Finals Day, men and women each had one final in which the over-50 events were age-graded and another where they weren't. If memory serves correctly, these matches were given equal status and qualifying clubs could chose the format they preferred. In the event, men's and women's champions Havant took part in the non age-graded finals while runners-up City of Portsmouth competed in the age-graded matches.
